D. Withdrawing from a Learning Support Class
The difference between dropping a class and withdrawing from a class is an important distinction. A course drop occurs during any active registration period or during the drop/add period. A dropped class will not appear on the student's schedule or academic record. In contrast, a course withdrawal occurs after drop/add and will result in one of two designations on the student's record: A "W" grade is recorded if the student withdraws from the class prior to the midpoint of the semester; a "WF" grade is recorded if the student withdraws after the midpoint. A "WF" is equal to a grade of "F" in terms of grade point average and, for Learning Support courses, a WF counts as an attempt in the Term Count.
Students enrolled in both Learning Support and college-credit courses may not withdraw from LS courses unless they also withdraw from college-credit courses. There is an exception. A student who remains in at least one Learning Support course may also remain in UNIV 1101/ESLO 1101, a 1000-level PHED, and/or a performance course, such as chorus, acting, drawing, or jazz band. Note: Performance courses do not include Area E Fine Arts courses.
